Butterflies & Birds

This was the subject at last Thursdays AVA session,. There were fifteen members present, much better than last week but below the average of what used to be the norm. We could do with an influx of new members, perhaps five or six.

An interesting subject, one that we haven't tackled before.

Very nice treatment of the butterflies and birds. I especially like Jan's and yours. Regarding PY153 I don't know if you have Daniel Smith in the UK but their New Gamboge is PY153.

You handle birds very well Peter. This is a bright, colourful painting.

Interesting as always. Enjoying your current interest in birds.

Thanks Delilah. As far as PY153 is concerned I read somewhere (I think Wetcanvas) that both Winsor & Newton and Daniel Smith had already replaced PY153 in their New Gamboge paints with a mixed pigment formulation.

Thanks Ray. The thing is about birds that there are so many really colourful subjects.

Thanks Mick as usual for your comments.

Hi Peter, I just placed an order with Daniel Smith and received a New Gamboge that is still marked PY 153 - might be old stock but this should last awhile.

Concerning Winsor Newton, I just read an email from Bromley's that Winsor Newton is changing - their look new packaging features a redesigned Griffin logo on a metallic tube. The 'Artists' Watercolours' have been re-branded 'Professional Watercolours'.

Hi Delilah sorry about the delay in replying. W & N have moved production to France, another British icon bites the dust! I have one tube in the new style - Cerulean -and don't like it at all. I hope the paint hasn't changed.

That's unfortunate. I do have a few tubes of Winsor Newton on my palette that I can't do without. I'll have to find their replacement in another brand.
